Description:

Afrormosia is very uniform colored dense hardwood which offers a lot of "ribbon striped" figure when quarter sawn.

Color Range & Color Change:

Color Range: Afrormosia is one of the most uniform in color range woods that we work with. Afrormosia is a golden tan teak color when freshly milled.Color Change: Afrormosia undergoes a large degree of color change over time with pronounced darkening from a golden tan color when freshly milled to a uniform medium brown when fully aged.

Hardness:Afrormosia is 123% as hard as red oak ( 1560 on the Janka scale vs. 1260 for red oak )

Where to Use:

Afrormosia may be used both residentially and commercially wherever the uniform rich look of afrormosia is desired.

Stability:

Afrormosia is very stable wood, superior to red oak.

Allergic Reaction Potential:

Afrormosia has been known to cause both contact dermatitis and respiratory allergic reactions so care must be taken when coming in contact with Afrormosia dust. Also, wood dust in general can be a hazard.

Known Finish Issues:

There are no finish compatibility issues known with Afrormosia at this time. However, ALWAYS test the finish you propose to use FIRST on test pieces to insure compatibility.
