Description:
Birch is a very heavy, strong, durable wood. It is hard and stiff, with excellent shock-resistance. Its natural and pleasing figure makes it very attractive for furniture and flooring. Birch has a small degree of luster, making it seem almost dull in appearance.
Color Range & Texture:
The wood is cream white in color, while the heartwood tends to be a light-reddish brown with a red tinge. Birch wood has an even texture with a straight, closed grain. Its pleasing light tone is similar to maple.
Hardness:
Birch species range from the upper lower end to the upper middle-range of the Janka hardness scale. White / Silver birch is 910, 9% softer than teak.
Where to Use:
In addition to wood flooring, birch is commonly used in high-class joinery, furniture, cabinets, interior fittings, dowels, bobbins and general turnery.
Stability:
With its good machining qualities, birch wood sands satisfactorily and has excellent holding ability when nailed.
Allergic Reaction Potential:
Some people can have an allergic reaction to birch.
Known Finish Issues:
Maybe difficult to stain.
