Description
:

Birch is a very heavy, strong, durable wood. It is hard and stiff, with excellent shock-resistance.  Its natural and pleasing figure makes it very attractive for furniture and flooring.  Birch has a small degree of luster, making it seem almost dull in appearance.

Color Range & Texture:

The wood is cream white in color, while the heartwood tends to be a light-reddish brown with a red tinge.  Birch wood has an even texture with a straight, closed grain.  Its pleasing light tone is similar to maple.

Hardness:

Birch species range from the upper lower end to the upper middle-range of the Janka hardness scale.  White / Silver birch is 910, 9% softer than teak.

Where to Use:

In addition to wood flooring, birch is commonly used in high-class joinery, furniture, cabinets, interior fittings, dowels, bobbins and general turnery.

Stability:

With its good machining qualities, birch wood sands satisfactorily and has excellent holding ability when nailed.

Allergic Reaction Potential:

Some people can have an allergic reaction to birch.

Known Finish Issues:

Maybe difficult to stain.
