Description:

Red Oak is America's most popular wood floor choice with a reddish tan color and distinctive graining.

Color Range & Color Change:

Color Range: Red Oak offers a medium range of color variability from lighter tan tones with pinkish highlights to darker browns.

Color Change: Red Oak undergoes a medium degree of color change over time with a slight ambering of the pinkish tan brown color you get when freshly milled.

Hardness:

Red Oak is the species against which we compare for hardness all the other woods we offer for flooring. Red Oak is 1260 on the Janka scale.

Where to Use:

Red Oak may be used both residentially and commercially wherever the classic look of American red oak is desired.

Stability:

Red Oak is average in stability.

Allergic Reaction Potential:

Cases of contact dermatitis have been known to occur. Care should be taken when coming into contact with Red Oak saw dust. Also, wood dust in general can be a hazard.

Known Finish Issues:

There are no known finish compatibility issues known with red oak. However, ALWAYS test the finish you propose to use FIRST on test pieces to insure compatibility.
