Overview

To The User

Congratulations on your new flooring! You are now walking on a Solid Hardwood Floor from Jason Parquet Specialist (S) Pte Ltd. Our floors are well manufactured using the latest technological advanced water-based urethane & acrylic polyurethane finishes. With a high build finish, our floors offer a durable finish that repels most household chemicals and is extremely easy to maintain.

Ventilation And/Or Air-Conditioning

Wood is living material and will adapt to the temperature and the relative humidity in the area(s) where it has been installed. The relative humidity should be between 65% to 80% (Singapore) at all times. For areas with air-conditioning on 24 hours, the relative humidity will be lower (the air feel dry) which may cause natural contraction of the boards and can be seen as small gaps between the timber strips. This does not affect the function and daily use of the floor. If you are away for longer periods (2-3 weeks), we recommend that your air-conditioning systems is pre-set to operate 1-2 hours daily thus maintaining the above-mentioned relative humidity level. For areas without air-conditioning we recommend that windows are to be opened to ensure sufficient ventilation. Pay attention to leaving doors or windows opened during rain falls, as any puddle of water left on the floor may damage the timber strips.

Cleaning And Maintenance (Lacquered Floor) Daily/Weekly :

Vacuum-clean or dry mop the floor to remove surface dust and grit. Occasionally, the floor should be cleaned using a mild soap based cleaner or a solution of soap flakes and a well-wrung cloth. For best result, please check with us for cleaning solution kit.

Important : The ponding of water must be kept to a minimum.
Remove any puddle of water on the surface immediately.

Long Term Maintenance :

Unlike other type of floors, solid hardwood floors can be resanded and relacquered to retain its original lusture and as a new layer of protection. Tech – Wood can last for many generation if proper care and maintenance is exercised.

Although our floors are tough, they are not indestructible and can be scratched and damaged through improper use and care. We offers the following suggestions to maximize the enjoyment of your floor. As with any floor covering material, a bit of preventative care and some common sense will go a long way in keeping your floor looking its best. Following are a few suggested “DO’S & DON‘TS”:

DO’S

1.At all entryways provide outside mats to keep dirt and grit off the floor. Inside, you may wish to consider using an area rug to further prevent the inside tracking of dirt. Remember, sand and grit will scratch and wear any finish!

2.Sweep or vacuum as often as necessary to remove any loose dirt or grit before it can scratch the floor.

3.When moving any appliances, heavy furniture, or other heavy objects slip a blanket or scrap of carpet, face down, under each foot of the object and then carefully slide the object over the floor. This will help avoid scratching and gouging.

4.Use floor protectors on the legs of all furniture to prevent gouging and scratching. In addition, certain types of casters on furniture legs may damage hardwood flooring. The wide barrel type of caster works best. If your furniture does not have the correct type of caster, we recommend changing them. Floor protectors may be purchased at your local hardware store.

5.Wipe up spills as soon as possible as water from spills can cause damage to any wood floor

6.In areas of excessive traffic and wear, please make use of runner or area rugs. If wear starts to develop in the finish in high traffic locations, these areas should be periodically refinished. Re-coating prior to total wear through of the finish will reduce the need for a complete re-sanding and refinishing. Contact us for expert advice on how to refinish worn areas.

7.As the wood in your floor ages, it will change in color, as it gains final character and patina. Certain species of wood, such as cherry, change color more than others. You should periodically move area carpets and furniture, especially in areas of direct sunlight, in order to allow the floor to age and change color more uniformly.

DON’TS

1.Do not allow dirt and grit to scratch your floor. Making use of entry floor mats and regular vacuuming of any grit and dirt does reach the floor will help prevent scratching and wear. Also, make sure your pet’s nails are trimmed as these can also scratch your floor.

2.Do not allow water to stand on your floor at any time. Water will cause cupping, swelling and subsequent gapping. Also, mopping your floor or cleaning up spills, do not over wet your floor, as it will damage the wood. Only use a slightly damp mop or rag/sponge when cleaning. Also, never use so called “oil soap” type cleaners such as Murphy’s Oil soap as these are actually water and soaking the floor with these is the same as soaking the floor with water!
This is especially important with Thin Strip style solid wood flooring, as it is particularly susceptible to cupping when exposed to excessive moisture, either from above or from below.

3. Do not allow “spike heel” type shoes to indent wood floors, especially if the heel tip is damaged or has lost its rubber pad.

4.Do not allow improperly padded or unprotected furniture legs to damage your floor.

5.Do not use ammonia, pine soap, oil soap, chlorine bleach or any abrasive cleaners that might scratch or react with the floor finish.

6.On our, urethane finished floors, which is our standard finish, we do not recommend the use of any waxes as these may make the floor slippery, dull the finish, and can cause re-coating failures later. If the floor is ever waxed, it will be necessary to sand the entire floor to bare wood before re-coating. (However, if you ordered your flooring with our oil finish option, any wear areas may be simply re-coated with additional penetrating oil and then the floor can be rebuffed to bring it up to a uniform sheen – please consult us for our expert advice on how to refinish an oil finish.)

Stain Removal :
Fresh stain and marks are easier to remove than old ones. Wash the floor using clean water and a well wrung out cloth.
